The Medlink 4 day course offers a complete experience for
the prospective medical student currently studying in either
year 12 or 13.

MEDLINK PRE-CONFERENCE SUPPORT:
- MEDLINK BOOKLET: the definitive guide to all things Medlink. Covering some 30 or more pages, a copy will be made available online by mid November.
The registration/confirmation letter will also include your personal login details that will allow you to unlock many of the Medlink pre-conference presentations mentioned below.

ONLINE NOTICE BOARD
offering advice, information and the opportunity to meet and make new friends and even arrange to share lifts before you arrive at Medlink. PLEASE NOTE: NOTICEBOARD REGISTRATION IS A SEPARATE PROCESS FROM YOUR PRE-CONFERENCE ACCOUNT LOGIN.
- PRE-CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT MATERIAL: Medlink has a great deal to offer, to prepare you to make the most of your time we provide a rich selection of pre-conference materials. Specifically there will be a number of online presentations and information sources that you will unlock using your personal login details, to be sent with your Medlink booklet. Below a number of the conference sessions refer to the pre-conference support that you can expect from Medlink.
Please note that many of the pre-conference materials can be viewed once you have your Medlink personal login details to be sent with your Medlink booklet.
MEDLINK CONFERENCE:
- PRESENTATIONS covering many areas of modern medicine, and a wide selection of topics of special interest to the prospective medical student.
- INTERVIEW WORKSHOPS specially designed to enhance and support UCAS application and interview preparation for medical school.
- MEDICAL STUDENTS will be available to answer your questions and concerns.
- PRACTICAL SESSIONS covering a range of hands-on practicals with the focus on cardiology, ophthalmology and the use of the otoscope and other clinical tools for examination and diagnosis. This session is supported by the interactive model in pre-conference materials.
- PATIENT CONTACT and group problem solving. Working in small teams with genuine patients, there will be the opportunity to identify and diagnose a number of conditions. This session is also supported by pre-conference online information and materials.
- CASUALTY ALERT is Medlink’s specially designed simulation of a busy casualty department, where you will work in teams in real time to make diagnosis and manage resources. This session is supported by pre-conference resources.

INTERACTIVE SURGERY offers a unique opportunity to witness and hear direct from the surgical team as they prep and operate. Background information will be provided as part of the pre-conference information to allow you to obtain the most from the surgery that you will be observing.
- UKCAT is one of the most exciting innovations in modern medical admissions and Medlink was delighted to be selected as the venue for the UKCAT consortium to launch the test. This year we are pleased to welcome back Professor I R Johnson the chair of UKCAT to discuss the results of the first year of UKCAT and to outline the further development of the test
- MEDLINK EXHIBITION: a chance for students and parents to meet with most of the UK medical schools in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Offering the opportunity to travel from Aberdeen medical school to Southampton medical school and all in between in just a few steps.
- PARENT SESSIONS offering a variety of presentations ranging from finance to supporting your son or daughter’s application to medical school. Coupled with the opportunity to talk direct to admission tutors from most of the UK medical schools. Full details will be in the Medlink booklet and online later in the year.
- EXPERIENCE CAMPUS LIFE for yourself before you actually apply to university. This is a valuable experience for all prospective students and is not to be missed.
- SOCIAL ACTIVITIES designed to ensure that you have every opportunity to make new friends from amongst the young people who you may be living and working alongside at medical school.
- FREE STETHOSCOPE [(Note that this includes training in use during an associated practical session, including support from the online conference materials]
MEDLINK POST CONFERENCE SUPPORT:
- PERSONAL WEB SPACE will be provided for all Medlink students post-conference. Guided by the information provided at Medlink, students will have the opportunity to build their own online academic portfolio. Links to additional materials that are either bought or provided free by Medlink will be uploaded to the student’s own personal space. Full details will be given at Medlink.
- OPPORTUNITIES ABROAD in Romania or India working with the Medlink supported charities for children, Full details will be given at Medlink.
- MEDICAL STUDENT BLOGS are the daily online diaries of a number of medical students from a range of medical schools, not to be missed!
- PODCASTS will be available from January when you will be able to download and listen to medical students and others talk on a range of topics of interest to the prospective medical student.

- MEDLINK NEWSLETTERS containing the latest news and information to anyone interested in topics that range from medical school application to recent advances in medicine and medical education, will be available from January.

- NEW MEDLINK SERVICES will be available from January, many of these services will be free and will utilise the very latest technology to provide you with personalised information to support your application to medical school and more.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Whilst Medlink offers a fully comprehensive course for the prospective medical student, there are several options that you can undertake, at extra cost to supplement your course. We offer the following modules:
- OXBRIDGE SESSION: designed to help you navigate the additional difficulties of applying to Oxford or Cambridge.
- PATHOLOGY COURSE: a further 2 day course focusing on key areas of pathology. Additionally you will have the opportunity to conduct your own research and have Medlink publish the results. Taking this option also assists those who require the extra days for their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
PLEASE NOTE THAT EACH OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS IS TIMETABLED SO THAT YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY OF THE MEDLINK PROGRAMME OR MEDLINK EXHIBITION.
